The working paper presents differences between men and women in selected fields: demography, education, labour market, pensions and women in key decision-making positions. More than half of Slovenia's population are women, as women live longer than men. They achieve better results in education and are better educated than men. Their labour market outcomes are worse than those for men (a lower employment rate, a higher unemployment rate, lower earnings), but the gender gap is smaller than on average in the EU. Men in Slovenia spend more hours of paid work per week in their main job and in other services, women spend more hours for care and housework. Only a few fathers take parental leave. Women have fewer years of pensionable service and receive lower pensions. Representation of women in key decision-making positions (corporate sector, Bank of Slovenia, politics) has risen, but in many areas share of women is still below 40%. Differences between women and men are also observed at the regional level.
