European Pillar of Social Rights
The European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission launched the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) in response to the consequences of the global financial crisis (2008–2013), which adversely affected the quality of life across the EU. Through this commitment, the European institutions aim to strengthen social convergence, promote social justice and foster sustainable social well-being by 2030, while taking into account the well-being of all EU residents. Since 2021, the EPSR has been an integral part of all EU policies, with its implementation monitored through the European Semester. A number of indicators have been agreed to monitor progress in implementing the EPSR principles, while additional indicators are still being developed by Eurostat. At the Porto Social Summit in May 2021, the Member States reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the EPSR by adopting the Action Plan.
